The National K-12 Cyber Security Education Project Directory
The K-12 Cyber Security Education Project focuses on one part of the workforce pipeline continuum, the K-12 endeavors, and includes both informal and formal efforts. It is a national effort to document the K-12 cyber security education programs on-going throughout the country and to address the goal of developing a comprehensive agenda focused on the opportunities and challenges of cyber security education at the K-12 level.
The Program Directory lists programs that focus on recruiting and retaining youth to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), with a particularly emphasis on the wide range of career options in cyber security. The purpose of this Directory is to help build a national network of K-12 stakeholders, share resources and lessons learned, and promote collaboration on STEM-related cyber security education projects.
The K-12 Cyber Security Education Project Directory is a valuable resource used to find and catalog information about K-12 cyber security programs in one central resource. The Directory contains program locations, descriptions, target audiences, resources available within each organization, program and/or organization needs, and contact information. Submitted entries will be reviewed and verified prior to inclusion in the Directory.
The National K-12 Cyber Security Education Project Directory is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Undergraduate Research in Cybersecurity Course (HACS 479) within the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students (ACES) program at the University of Maryland, College Park, under the supervision of Dr. Jan Plane.
The Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students (ACES) program encourages its students to engage in research in order to gain greater insight into a specific area within cyber security, obtain an appreciation for the subtleties and difficulties associated with the production of knowledge and fundamental new applications, and to prepare for graduate school and the workforce.
In addition, this Project Directory supports efforts started while in the Robert H. Smith School of Business, Information Systems, BMGT 402F Database Management Systems course as part of the Information Technology and Business Transformation (iTBT) Fellows Program. Its goal is to apply concepts learned in an effort to gather critical information in an easily accessible web-based platform.
